The Šunikov vodni gaj | Šunik Water Grove is a real water paradise. A circular path leads past many small waterfalls and green-blue pools created by the Šunik stream.

This place absolutely belongs to my top favourite places, and fortunately it's not very far from home. It usually doesn't take longer than 1.5 hours to get to the rather small parking lot at the beginning of the Šunik Water Grove in the Lepena Valley, a side valley of the Soča Valley in Slovenia. The Soča Valley is famous for the Soča river, also called the "Emerald River" for it's emerald green colour.

Because the Šunikov vodni gaj is a well visited place, you will usually find me there at around sunrise, before most tourists get up. When I was there last weekend, Spring had already arrived. The trees were wearing fresh green leav-dresses again, and some wild Spring flowers have been blooming aside the Lepenjica river.

The two photos below weren't taken in Šunikov vodni gaj, but not far away from it. Only after quite some rain you can see such streams flowing over and between the beautiful mossy green rocks in the beech forest.
